Job Title:  Special Education Teacher

Reports To: Head of School

Bynum School is a faith-based, nonprofit, private day school that serves students who have special needs ages pre-school through adult. Students exhibit mild to severe cognitive and physical disabilities along with behaviors and abilities ranging across the autism spectrum. Bynum School seeks energetic, dedicated, full-time teachers to provide appropriate educational experiences for students socially, emotionally, and cognitively. Teachers must be able to assess, plan lessons based on individual program plans, modify curriculum, document student progress, and implement a wide range of strategies to work with each individual need. Teachers must have working knowledge of disability categories and be able to provide services and support to all students. The ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with students, co workers, and parents is essential. Applicants must demonstrate motivation and commitment to serving all students in a safe and nurturing environment and effectively supervise teaching assistants.

Qualifications: Must be able to lift and have adequate mobility. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a teaching certificate in special education preferred. Experience in special education.

Job Title:  Special Education Teacher Assistant

Reports To: Head of School

Bynum School, a nonprofit private day school that serves students who have special needs ages pre-school through adult, seeks an energetic and dedicated full-time teacher assistant. Students exhibit mild to severe cognitive and physical disabilities. The ability to collaborate and communicate effectively is essential. Successful experience working with young children and children with special needs is required. With guidance from the teacher, the assistant will prepare classroom materials, keep a neat and orderly learning environment, assist students in and out of the classroom, and complete other duties as assigned. Teacher assistants work cooperatively with all staff to meet the needs of children by protecting student confidentiality, and by treating children and parents with respect. Assistants attend staff meetings and staff development sessions. Job requirements include a high school diploma or GED, experience in special education or a related field, a valid Texas driver’s license, and the ability to lift or position students.
