Our goal for each Bynum student
is to educate appropriate skills
in the areas of:

Personal Hygiene

Social Behavior

Language Development

Academic Learning

Vocational Training

Leisure Activities

Bynum school is a nonprofit, year-round, private school for children and adults with special needs.  We now serve ages 3-adult.  Our programs now include integrated preschool, primary class, teen class, and vocational training.

Organizational Mission and Beliefs

Bynum School provides an educational setting for children and young adults with various disabilities (learning, developmental, emotional, and behavioral or a combination of all). While one other private school in Midland offers an educational setting for those students with dyslexia and attention deficit disorders, Bynum School is the only private school in the Permian Basin that accepts students with all disabilities and provides for them an alternative to public education, which is not always the most successful setting for students who have special needs.

Without Bynum School, many of the students enrolled would be placed in residential facilities at great distances from their families. Students have traveled from as far as Lamesa, Pecos, Snyder, Stanton, Big Spring, as well as from Midland and Odessa, to attend Bynum School.

Bynum’s mission:  Bynum School exists to provide personalized educational, behavioral and vocational programs for students with special needs.

Bynum School believes…

  • Each student is a valued individual able to learn skills appropriate to his/her unique abilities and challenges.

  • Students learn best when active participation is part of the education process, teaching methods are modified to fit individual learning styles, learned skills are practiced in a community setting, and goals are evaluated by frequent and accurate assessment.

  • An environment that is sage both physically and psychologically promotes student learning.

  • Cooperation between parents and staff provides consistency in expectations, discipline and rewards.  Positive relationships and mutual respect among students, families and staff build self-esteem in students.
